AAAG Announces Theme for the 4th annual Conference as Anticipation Builds for Continental Event in Eswatini

The Executive Committee of the African Association of Accountants General has approved the theme for the 2026 Annual Conference: “From Reform to Results: Driving Accountable, Impactful and Resilient Public Finance in Africa.”

Lusaka, Zambia, 18 May 2026 — The African Association of Accountants General (AAAG) is pleased to announce the theme for its 4th Annual Conference, scheduled to take place from 30 November to 04 December 2026 in the Kingdom of Eswatini.

The theme, “From Reform to Results: Driving Accountable, Impactful and Resilient Public Finance in Africa,” was approved by the AAAG Executive Committee during its 7th Meeting held in April 2026. It reflects the Association’s recognition that, while many African countries have made notable progress in strengthening public financial management systems, the next critical step is to translate reforms into tangible, measurable and sustainable outcomes for citizens.

The 2026 Conference will provide a high-level continental platform for examining how African governments can move from policy intent to institutionalised action. Discussions will focus on strengthening accountability, improving fiscal discipline, enhancing transparency, reinforcing public financial governance, and ensuring that reforms generate visible results in service delivery, economic resilience and public trust.

“The 2026 Conference will address a central challenge for governments: how to transform years of financial management reform into visible outcomes that strengthen economies, improve public services and reinforce confidence in state institutions,” said Fredrick Riaga FCPA, Chief Executive Officer of AAAG.

“The Conference agenda will therefore focus on moving beyond compliance-based reforms towards performance-oriented public finance systems that deliver transparency, fiscal sustainability, accountability and meaningful development impact,” he added.

AAAG will use the Conference to highlight the evolving role of the Offices of Accountants General across Africa. Beyond their traditional responsibilities in accounting, reporting and financial control, these offices are increasingly positioned as strategic institutions supporting fiscal credibility, public sector transformation, risk management, financial governance and national development.

The 4th AAAG Annual Conference will be co-hosted with the Office of the Accountant General of the Kingdom of Eswatini. The event is expected to bring together Ministers of Finance, Accountants General, senior treasury officials, development partners, multilateral institutions, professional accountancy organisations, private sector leaders, technology firms, academics, governance experts and other key stakeholders from Africa and beyond.

The Conference programme will include plenary sessions, technical discussions, policy dialogues, exhibitions, networking engagements and institutional showcases. Key areas of focus will include digital transformation, artificial intelligence in public finance, fiscal resilience, debt sustainability, IPSAS implementation, financial reporting, transparency and accountability, anti-corruption, curbing illicit financial flows, sustainable and climate-responsive finance, and innovation in public financial management systems.

The 2026 Conference builds on the success of the 3rd AAAG Annual Conference held in Accra, Ghana, which brought together more than 1,500 delegates from 23 African countries, including senior government officials, public sector institutions, development partners and professional bodies.

AAAG invites public sector institutions, development partners, financial institutions, professional bodies, technology companies, consulting firms, regional and international organisations, and other strategic stakeholders to participate in the Conference as sponsors, exhibitors, knowledge partners and collaborators. The Conference offers a unique opportunity for visibility, thought leadership, strategic engagement and direct interaction with Africa’s leading public finance decision-makers and reform practitioners.

As public financial management continues to play a central role in economic governance, fiscal resilience and public service delivery, the 2026 Conference is expected to attract strong continental and international interest from institutions seeking practical solutions for accountable and results-driven public finance systems.

Further information on registration, exhibition opportunities and the Conference programme will be shared in due course.
