Brief historical background
The African Association of Accountants General (AAAG) evolved from the East and Southern African Association of Accountants General (ESAAG), which had served as a regional platform for nearly thirty years. In 2018, African leaders saw the need for a continent-wide organization and began discussions to expand ESAAG’s model. Consultative meetings held across Africa from 2019 to 2021 led to the adoption of a new constitution. With support from the African Union and other partners, AAAG was officially launched on July 6, 2023, during a ceremony held in Mombasa, Kenya. This event marked the shift from a regional group to a Pan-African association that now brings together Accountants General from all over Africa.
