Africa’s public finance leadership took centre stage at the 2025 IPSASB Public Sector Standard Setters Forum in Lisbon, Portugal, from 7–9 September. AAAG’s CEO, Mr. Fredrick Riaga, and Technical Director, Mr. Bruce Mwewa, joined global leaders to share Africa’s perspectives on transition to accrual accounting, raising AAAG’s and the continent’s profile on the international stage.
In a panel of discussion on “Shaping Tomorrow Together – Embarking on the Journey”, Mr. Riaga shared practical insights from African jurisdictions on transitioning to accrual-based IPSAS. The session also addressed the growing importance of sustainability reporting for transparency, accountability, and resilient public financial systems. Through these contributions, AAAG reinforced its role as Africa’s voice in global financial reporting.
Besides the panel of discussion, the AAAG team engaged with technical experts and global leaders, exchanging insights to help shape the future of public sector financial management. These interactions underscored AAAG’s commitment to advancing sound financial practices and supporting Africa’s transition to accrual IPSAS and digital PFM modernization.
The Forum provided a valuable platform to showcase Africa’s leadership and influence on global standards. It underscored the need for Africa to define its own implementation pathways within international frameworks. For AAAG, it presented an opportunity to strengthen its leadership in Africa, increasing global visibility while reaffirming its growing role in advancing accountable and resilient public financial management systems.
