Reporting for Resilience: Strengthening Public Sector Sustainability Reporting under IPSASB SRS 1

June 26 @ 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm

Climate change is no longer only an environmental concern; it is a fiscal, governance and public accountability issue. Across Africa, climate-related risks are increasingly affecting public infrastructure, service delivery, debt sustainability, budget credibility and long-term development outcomes. Yet many public sector reporting systems still do not provide sufficient information on how climate-related risks and opportunities affect government operations, public assets, fiscal resilience and service delivery.

This webinar will focus on the emerging public sector sustainability reporting agenda, with particular emphasis on IPSASB SRS 1: Climate-related Disclosures. Participants will explore how public sector entities can begin preparing to disclose climate-related risks and opportunities in a manner that strengthens accountability, supports decision-making and enhances transparency in general-purpose financial reports.

The session will also highlight the pivotal role of the Accountant-General in supporting sustainability reporting readiness, strengthening data systems, coordinating climate-related financial information, and ensuring that sustainability disclosures are connected to financial reporting, fiscal risk management, asset management, budgeting and long-term public finance resilience.

Key Focus Areas

The webinar will focus on the practical and strategic dimensions of public sector sustainability reporting, equipping participants with an understanding of IPSASB SRS 1 and the institutional actions required to strengthen climate-related disclosure, fiscal transparency and reporting readiness across African governments.
